A clutch kit will usually consist of a pressure plate, clutch friction disc, and a release bearing. Sometimes a more complete kit will include a pilot bearing and many will also come with an alignment tool. Replacing a worn clutch friction disk is a great way to improve the driving experience of higher mileage cars. Common symptoms of a clutch system in need of replacement include: Soft clutch pedal or low engagement point, chatter, and clutch slippage. The failure of release and pilot bearing are usually accompanied by an audible whine of various kinds. This normally occurs as the clutch pedal is engaged or disengaged. It is important to remember that a vehicle’s clutch is a wear item, and that clutch life varies and depends largely on driving style. Some systems will need replacement after less than 60,000mi, while others can last well over 100,000mi.
