Left Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

• Turn key in ignition lock to position “0”
• Remove bottom engine compartment paneling
• Drain coolant at radiator
• Remove air filter housing
• Remove fan unit
• Remove the accessory belt and the accessory belt tensioner
• Remove thermostat
• Remove oil filter housing (1)
• Remove expansion tank (2)
• Remove front cover (3)
• Detach purge line (4) at separation point (arrow), unclip it from the brackets on oil separator (5) and feed line duct (6)
• Place the purge line to the side
• Reduce fuel pressure through service valve
• Detach fuel line (7) at fuel distributor (8)
• Remove ignition coils on left cylinder bank
• Detach ground line (9) from cylinder head cover (10)
• Remove rear engine suspension lug (11)
• Remove feed line duct  (6) from cylinder head cover (10)
• Remove front rubber mount (12) from cylinder head cover (10)
• Loosen screws/bolts for cylinder head cover in reverse order of tightening procedure and remove them
• Carefully pry the valve cover off 
• Use Loctite 7200 or 7063 to clean the sealing surfaces
• Apply Loctite 5970 sealant by making a 1mm thick bead around the perimeter of the valve cover. 
• Reassemble the valve cover within 10 minutes of applying the sealant
• Reinstall everything in the reverse order

Right Valve Cover Gasket Replacement 

• Turn the key in ignition lock to position “0”
• Remove air filter housing 
• Remove screws/bolts (1a) and remove bracket (1) for front engine cover with switchover valve (Y32)
• Remove air shutoff valve (2)
• Remove front cover (3)
• Remove ignition coils at right cylinder bank
• Remove cover (4) on centrifuge
• Disconnect right connector (R) at ME-SFI (ME) control unit (N3/10)
• Dietach ME-SFI (ME) control unit (N3/10) from control unit brackets (5l,5r) and lay one to the side
• Remove right control unit bracket (5r)
• Detach ground line (6) from cylinder head cover (7)
• Remove feed duct (8) from resonance intake manifold (9), valve cover (7), and right engine suspension lug (10), and place it to the side
• Loose screws/bolts for valve cover (7) in reverse order of tightening procedure and remove them
• Carefully pry the valve cover from cylinder head
• Clean the sealing surfaces using Loctite 7200 or 7063 cleaners
• Apply Loctite 5970 sealant by making a 1mm thick bead around the perimeter of the valve cover
• Reassemble the valve cover within 10 minutes of applying the sealant
• Reinstall everything in the reverse order

Oil Filter Housing Repair

To replace the oil filter housing gasket, do the following:

• Remove the oil filter insert in the oil filter housing (5)
• Remove the accessory belt, guide pulley (4) and the belt tensioner (3)
• Remove coolant thermostat housing (2)
• Remove bolts (5a) and oil filter housing (5)
• Replace the worn gasket and reinstall in the reverse order
• Check the engine oil level and add more if necessary
