Joseph Hebmuller founded Karosserie Hebmuller in the German town of Wuppertal on October 15, 1889. Along with stylish coaches, the new company also made commercial carriages for bakeries, butcheries, dairies, and other types of businesses.
In 1915, Joseph created his first vehicle body, and thus Hebmuller’s career as an automotive coachbuilder officially began. Pullman-Limousines became a specialty brand after Joseph’s four sons focused their work on automotive coachwork. After this, Hebmuller became a family-run enterprise. The majority of the work at the time was based on specific orders for manufacturers like Adler, Dixi, Fiat, Wanderer, Roehr, Stoewer, and similar companies.
The British Army ordered 15 Humber-based cabriolets from the manufacturer after World War II. The Volkswagen Type 14A, often known as the “Hebmuller Cabriolet,” is what the company is best known for. This 2+2 convertible built on the Volkswagen Type 1 chassis put the company on the map, opening many doors for the family within the German automotive industry.
Today, Hebmuller is known for manufacturing car parts that provide comfortable driving and a safe ride.
