The heat in the coolant transfers to the thin fins that connect the rows of tubing and then transfers to air passing across the tubes and fins of the radiator. The cooled down antifreeze then returns to the engine. Two major signs of a failing radiator are leaking, and decreased efficiency in the form of raised engine temperatures.
